KIM Haneul pays attention to the fact that disposable masks, which have became daily essentials after the break of COVID-19, are made of non-perishable plastic and cause environmental pollution when discarded. Rather than simply recycling used masks, the artist upcycles them into furniture such as chairs and tables. In the exhibition she presents 〈Organic Series〉, a bench created with 3D printing technique. And the bench has the texture of a natural object similar to the natural stone benches under metasequoia trees. The work is placed next to the natural stone benches for visitors to actually use the upcycled furniture. The transformation of a mask, which used to be a daily necessity, into a furniture presents a new landscape in the era of the climate crisis.
